by Tom Schrieber

@rarecharity

We're showing Friday appreciation for @thebutchersdaughter_official who collaborated with @rareteacompany to create this very special juice and are donating a percentage of proceeds to support our scholars.
Thank you so much for this wonderful initiative.
Rare Scholar Yamikani was showing he means business once again last week. Participating in an educational visit to Nico Holdings financial services group, he took time to connect with and gain knowledge from a range of industry leaders, such as Dennis Chalimba, shown here talking with Yamikani. We’re so happy to see the great progress each of our scholars is making.
Could you be our new Country Manager?
We’re looking for someone who can develop our work in Malawi and offer dedicated and strengthened support for the education of inspiring young people.
This is a part-time role with the potential for future growth.
We’re looking for a proven self-starter, with strong administrative and digital skills, a knowledge of the Malawian education system and commitment to the value of education.
For more on the role and how to apply, check our Facebook or email tom@rarecharity.com
The excitement of welcoming Tom is of course tinged with a note of sadness on saying farewell to Daisy. For the last four years Daisy has been at the heart of the growth and development of Rare Charity, working to build the support needed for, and with, our scholars.
A post won’t be enough to convey the appreciation for what she’s achieved, and how she will be missed. For now we will just wish her well as she moves on to new challenges, knowing that she will stay a part of the Rare Charity family.
Thank you Daisy.
Some of you may remember our hiring post from late last year. Well, it's time to introduce our new Managing Director, Tom Schrieber.
Tom spent many years in Malawi, working across a wide range of projects and sectors including culture, human rights and energy, as well as education. He brings great passion and experience to the role, alongside his local knowledge. Having spent the final weeks of 2022 working closely with Daisy, he is now managing Rare Charity's scholarships, and inspiring the scholars with compassion and professionalism.
We're excited to welcome Tom and look forward to working together to deliver the best for our scholars and their communities.
Congratulations to our amazing scholar Norah, who graduated with a Diploma in Community Development earlier this month.

With Christmas fast approaching we wanted to send sincere thanks and season's greetings to you and all of our supporters, on behalf of Norah and all of our brilliant scholars.

Wishing everyone a wonderful Christmas.

This is a tribute to @mcdonaldnyoni - the most brilliant Country Manager we could have wished for.

Mac has left us to lead on exploration for the United Nations Development Programme. We will miss his passion and humanity, his strategic thinking and his ambitions for each one of scholars.

We will recruit for a new country manager in the new year - big boots to fill!

But today we celebrate Mac's legacy, and everything he brought to our brilliant scholars and to Rare Charity's growth.

We're looking for a new Managing Director to take Rare Charity forward with determination, compassion and gumption.

Permanent position, 4 days per week, London-based.

Experience in managing educational programmes is desirable; proven success in fundraising is preferable; enjoyment of excellent tea is crucial.

We are so excited to welcome Chisomo to our scholarship programme. Chisomo is studying Agriculture and Irritation Technology:

"Due to climate change, farmers in Malawi are producing increasingly smaller yields. Many Malawians go hungry and even starve.

With the knowledge that I will obtain from my subject, I will help farmers with knowledge of new irrigation systems to stimulate yields.

The community will develop. People need no longer suffer from hunger.

Eventually I would like to work for @satemwa_tea_coffee garden, to develop irrigation systems to increase yields and maximise tea exports."

Thank-you to everyone who continues to support Chisomo and the other extraordinary young people on our scholarship programmes.
Secondary school exam results are out in Malawi- and we are thrilled that all our scholars have passed their JCE exams with flying colours.

All 14 young women on our secondary scholarship programmes have faced untold challenges to continue with their education. We are proud to stand with them, and to celebrate their terrific achievements asthey start a new academic year.
We are thrilled to welcome Morvin to our scholarship programme.

"I am so grateful for the Rare Charity scholarship. I can now see my dreams of becoming a Biomedical Scientist coming true. I have ambitions to serve the world in the Medical Research field.

"I was on the verge of being withdrawn - my mother sold all her household items to raise money for my school fees. Then she had nothing more to sell.

"I am really grateful for the scholarship. I can concentrate on my studies now. I feel safe"

Thank-you to everyone for continuing to support Morvin and all the inspirational young people on our programmes. We'll be introducing you to more of our new scholars over the next few weeks - stay posted!
