Teacher training, in Thomas’s own words

Teacher training, in Thomas’s own words

My name is Thomas, a third-year student at Domasi College of Education. I would like to share my experience of the micro-teaching activity at Domasi Demonstration Secondary School.

As part of our academic journey at Domasi College of Education, the college organizes a micro-teaching exercise for all third-year students. This activity is meant to prepare us for the position of assistant teacher after completing our third year. It helps student teachers to practice lesson delivery, classroom management and professional conduct under supervision before going for full teaching practice.

During this exercise, I was assigned to teach Geography in Form 1B. Although I was a bit nervous at first because it was my first time teaching under supervision, I prepared my lesson thoroughly. I developed a detailed lesson plan, prepared teaching and learning materials  and made sure I understood the content very well before entering the classroom.

The lesson went well and it was a successful experience for me. I learned a lot about professional development in teaching. For example, I improved my confidence, lesson preparation skills and presentation skills. I also learned how to engage learners by asking questions and encouraging participation. Managing time and controlling the class were challenging at first, but I tried my best and followed the guidance of my supervisor.

I was very encouraged when my supervisor appreciated my performance and gave me constructive feedback. The feedback helped me understand my strengths and areas where I need to improve. Through this activity, I realized that self-confidence, proper preparation and commitment are very important qualities for a teacher.

As I continue with my academic journey, I am determined to become a competent and effective teacher. I will keep working hard, improving my teaching skills and remaining committed to my profession. The micro-teaching experience has truly prepared me for future responsibilities and has strengthened my passion for becoming a professional teacher.

In conclusion, I would like to sincerely thank Rare Charity for the continued support you provide towards my education. Your assistance motivates me to work harder and remain focused on achieving my academic and professional goals. Because of your support, I am able to fully participate in important activities such as micro-teaching, which are shaping me into a confident and competent future teacher. I am truly grateful for your commitment to my educational journey and I promise to continue doing my best to make you proud.
